About the Course
In this course you will learn how to use listening and counselling skills for a variety of different contexts either in the workplace or in volunteering. You will learn practical skills and competencies to be able to use counselling skills ethically and safely to help others as part of the first stage in professional counselling training. You will also learn a great deal about yourself.
Who is it for?
This qualification is for:
• Those who are embarking on the first level of training as a professional counsellor;
• Those who want to learn counselling skills to help others in a variety of contexts and roles;
• Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.
What will I do on this course?
The course is ‘experiential’, this means you learn by ‘doing’. You will learn by working together with your peers, your tutors as well as in personal study.
The seven learning outcomes are:
1. Use counselling skills ethically and safely
2. Establish and sustain the boundaries of the helping role
3. Work empathically as a helper
4. Focus on the helpee’s needs and concerns
5. Use self awareness in helping work
6. Use a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction
7. Use feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills
How is the course assessed?
Students will experience a variety of assessment methods designed to support your experience on the course. These include: learning reviews, recorded assignment, personal reflection, practical skills assessments and an externally marked assessment paper.
Entry Requirements
There are no requirements for previous training, though you must be 19 years of age.

CPCAB EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT: 13th January 2025
FEE: £752 inclusive of CPCAB registration fee
PAYMENTS: Non-refundable deposit of £250 followed by 5 consecutive payments of £100.40
TERM BREAKS: 28th October to 3rd November 2024. 17th February to 23rd February 2025. 26th May to 31st May 2025
CHRISTMAS: 23rd December 2024 to 5th January 2025
EASTER: 7th April to 21st April 2025
Progression
The course achieves 17 learning Credits and is entered on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Progression onto Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies subject to successful interview.
